Kinja'd!!!

I’ve been searching for a bottle of Talisker 18 for 6 years with no luck. Canada is one of the very few countries in the world that international sites won’t ship to.

3 weeks ago I was over the moon when I learned that !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! had just received a case, and lo and behold, they actually ship to Canada.

Since then I’ve done what I thought was some sound math in calculating the cost. $88.20US to CDN is $109.05, plus $51.45 for shipping, plus federal and provincial tax on the product of $13.08. A total of $173.58. If memory serves, that was roughly the cost when it was available here back in 2009. Sounds pretty good to me.

This morning I found this !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .

Kinja'd!!!

$387.21 plus $51.45 shipping. $438.66 . You must be joking. I think I need a drink...

Where in Canada are you? I live in Michigan and do booze runs into CA a few times a year. There’s a liquor store near me that can give me some pretty solid prices on multiple bottles. I’d be glad to do a bit of bootlegging if you’re near windsor or sarnia.

I think those fees explain why most people don’t ship into Canada.

You may be right. This site offers the service of providing an import agent, while others might not want to be bothered. Easier just to say we don’t do it, given the smallish volume. I suppose I might be able to order anything through an agent that I find. At a cost...

Damn, it looks delicious, but not at that price.

The most expensive scotch I’ve seen was at the Highlander pub in Ottawa and cost something like $350 an ounce or something.

For that much money for ONE bottle, I’d better receive Jessica Alba with it, and she pours me shots on demand.

That’s the level I expect for 400$ lol

For $50 less I could drive 20 minutes and get a bottle of 25 year old. It’s just not worth it.

I’ve not seen prices like that around here. They usually max out at 100-150.

Where are you located? I’m driving up to Montreal in 2 weeks and then again at Thanksgiving. We could try to make it work

Last time it was sold here by the government it was $175. If it was available today it might be in the low $200 range. Our alcohol is very expensive even compared to the rest of Canada.

It was from like a $10k bottle of scotch or something. They advertised it on their menu.

I’ve only seen prices like that at one steak house( the one actually located in Indy that is famous that Parks and Rec ripped off for Ron Swanson’s favorite steak house)

Seems like it’s time for a trip to Scotland.

I’m sometimes tempted to book a weekend trip to Belgium (I’m in the US) just to take back suitcases full of Cantillon and chocolate.

What if someone in the U.S.A. were to ship you a bottle without your knowledge but with your money?

Some buddies and I may or may not have shipped beer across the US as “bbq sauce”.

I wonder if a carrier would open the box...

Hell, ship it to me in the states. Happy to forward it on to you with some generic customs description. I won’t even sample it first, probably..... :)

:-)x. Thank you very much, but the risk of confiscation is high on this one. I’m going to use this experience as a nail in the coffin on the quest. Instead I’ll focus my money and time on finding a new favorite.

Thanks Man, but I think I’m going to try some new scotches with the money I would have spent. It’s a journey. With Christmas right around the corner maybe I’ll get out to a Whiskey bar and try the Old Pulteney 17.
